Welcome to Persisting

For a long time, I never thought I’d be writing something like this. When you’re living with depression, your world can shrink until the only thing you see is the next minute, the next hour, the next day you’re trying to survive. Writing a book, starting a blog, sharing my story publicly … those were things for people who were healthier, braver, stronger. People who had “figured it out.”

But here I am anyway. Not because I’ve figured everything out, but because I know what it’s like to be in that place where nothing makes sense, where you’re carrying so much pain you can’t see past it. And I know how much it would have meant to me to hear someone say: You are not alone. You can keep going. You can persist.

That’s why I’m writing my book, Persisting, and why I’m starting this blog.

Why Persisting Exists

I’m not writing as someone who’s “cured” or “done” with depression. Healing isn’t linear, and it isn’t permanent (I have a whole chapter on that in fact!). I still have dark days, and I suspect I always will. But I’ve also learned ways to keep myself alive and moving through them.

Persisting is about those ways. It’s about the daily, sometimes unglamorous, sometimes surprising things that help. It’s about practical tools you can reach for, spiritual perspectives that give meaning, and personal stories that remind you that someone else has been there too.

This blog is an extension of that book. It’s my living, breathing conversation around the same themes. It’s a place to unpack pieces of the book, add new reflections, and connect with readers in real time.

What You’ll Find Here

I want this space to feel both grounding and useful. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Personal Reflections: I’ll share pieces of my own journey – what depression has looked like in my life, what recovery has meant, and the small victories and setbacks that still shape my days. I don’t share because my story is special, I share because maybe you’ll see something of yourself in it.
  • Practical Tools: I believe in coping strategies that are concrete and approachable. Sometimes it’s as simple as setting up a daily ritual, or remembering one grounding exercise when the panic hits. These aren’t magic fixes, but they can be lifelines.
  • Modern Research:  There’s incredible work happening in psychology, neuroscience, and medicine around depression and resilience. I’ll highlight research that’s accessible, relevant, and applicable (without the jargon).
  • Encouragement & Connection: More than anything, I want this blog to remind you that you’re not alone. Whether you’re struggling yourself or supporting someone who is, there’s value in walking together.

Why a Blog?

Books take years to write, edit, and publish. Blogs are alive. They can grow and shift as the conversation does.

By writing here, I can share pieces of Persisting with you now instead of waiting until it’s on a shelf. I can respond to what’s happening in the world, to questions you bring up, to themes that emerge from our shared experiences.

And honestly, a blog feels human. It’s imperfect, but it’s immediate. It’s a connection to the outside world. Recovery is also imperfect, but we all need that connection.

Moving Forward

If you’ve found your way here, welcome! Maybe you’re in the thick of depression right now. Maybe you’ve survived it before. Maybe you love someone who’s struggling and you’re trying to understand. Whoever you are, you’re invited to be part of this space.

I’ll be posting regularly. I’ll be sharing pieces of the book, reflections that didn’t fit neatly into a chapter, and new ideas I’m discovering along the way. Some posts will be practical, some reflective, some rooted in research. All will come from the same core belief: that persistence matters, even when progress feels slow.

Thank you for showing up, for reading, for being willing to join me here. My hope is that together we can create not just a blog, but a small corner of the internet where honesty, resilience, and compassion are possible.

Because persistence isn’t about never falling down. It’s about getting back up again and again, in ways big and small … and choosing, somehow, to stay.
